Davis-Magoon Family

John William Davis (1819-1912) and Abiah Magoon (1830-1917) lived and died in Quebec. They had fifteen children – eight sons and seven daughters. Twelve survived childhood, married and had children. If the Vanderven-Marcellus and Gouthro family trees are accurate, they had 83 grandchildren.

I have multiple DNA matches with descendants of nine of Davis-Magoon children. Two of which are expected since they are siblings of my great-grandmother Matilda McFall. Based on matches with some of their descendants, I believe they are my father's great-grandparents.

Researching the Hallberg surname

Researching the Hallberg surname

This morning, I posted the following query on the Ancestry Message Boards > Localities > Scandinavian and Baltic States > Sweden > General

I found this on MyHeritage for an ancestor of my wife.  I know it references their marriage.

Torparen i Östermo under Östra Grinderum i Frödinge socken Post  FRÖ-V-894 Isacsson Hallberg, Petter Långvikstorp Larsd., Maja Piga Långvikstorp Vigda 1/1 1820 i Frödinge (H)--------------Källa: Frödinge CI:3

1) Are they from Långvikstorp?
2) What does Vigda mean?
3)  The source is Frödinge CI:3.  What is CL:3?
4) Where did they get married - Östermo? Östra Grinderum?  Frödinge?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have been investigating the Patrik Hallberg Web Site on MyHeritage (I have a subscription). He also has a tree on Ancestry but it does not include sources. The one on MyHeritage does.

Petter Petterson's grandfather was Isac Hallberg Nilsson. Patrik's tree goes back two more generations. Neither his father or grandfather uses Hallberg. The name appears to be documented. Here is the biography included in his profile.

Mikael Persson, a cousin of Carolyn and Jeff,  is going to check whether the sources are from the Hjorted parish records.
Hallberg was his military name. Båtsman is pronounced "boatsman" and translated to boatswain. He was in the Swedish Navy.

Nils Petter Nilsson and Stina Cajsa Nilsdotter family

Carolyn's 2nd-great-grandparents have four children on record: Stina Maria, Nils Petter, Carl Johan (her great-grandfather AKA CJA Peterson), and Cajsa Lena.

15 May 1868  Nils Petter emigrated destination Nordamerika traveling alone.
2 Apr 1869      Carl Johan  emigrated destination Galva

9 Jun 1871      Stina Nilsdotter emigrated destination Chicago with Clara age 11. This is not Carolyn's 2nd-great-grandmother as I was speculating.

Researching the family, I found lots of new information. I am using the surname Pehrsson since that is on their baptism records

Daughters Stina Maria and Cajsa Lena both married and died in Kristdala.

I found Stina Maria in the Hultgren-Gustafson Family Tree by Ingvar Hultgren. It did not include her three siblings. It includes seven more generations to your 9th-great-grandfather.

I found Cajsa Lena in the Ålstam släktträd by Anders Ålstam of Gunnebo, Kalmar, Sverige. It did not include her three siblings but identified Petter Nilsson's parents.I did not include them since there were no source citations.

I think Nils Petter died in Chicago in 1897, but I cannot prove it without ordering the death certificate,
